Are You Willing to Crown a New King of Philadelphia?

My favorite player in NBA history (so far)? Easy answer: LeBron James of the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Why? Three quick reasons:

  1. He is the best player I have ever seen play basketball and I will argue that until the day I die or the day Ben Simmons surpasses him.
  2. I saw him play in a high school game at the Palestra when I was in 2nd grade and he was unbelievable. So I’ve been hooked at a young age.
  3. The Sixers have been unbearable to watch for over a decade before The Process was complete.

LeBron James is a free agent next summer, which means he can shop himself around and find a perfect fit for a new city and a new team.  NBA personalities have talked about him staying in Cleveland, going to Houston to join his friend Chris Paul, or flying West to be a Laker.  I, as well as others, now believe Philadelphia is a great landing spot for King James…

Rising Superstars:

Ben and Joel Embiid have proved to the NBA that they can dominate at an extremely young age, which only means they will continue to be superstars.  Ben is leading all rookies in all major stat categories and Joel is a top 20 scorer in the league while averages over 11 rebounds per game.  The Sixers have two young all-stars with superstar potential and LeBron, in the last five years of his career, has surrounded himself with veteran talent.

Leaving the Elderly

Rising superstars in the East are a threat to LeBron, but I think he is more worried about his situation in Cleveland.  His teammates are getting older and matching up with the Warriors gets more and more difficult as each season goes by.  He needs a fresh start and a new roster filled with youth.  Taking a backseat to Ben Simmons is something that not a lot of people think LeBron is capable of, however, I strongly disagree.  He is in his 15th season and is in the top five for minutes played per game.  To be put more clearly: he needs a break from carrying the burden mentally and physically.

He can share the city with his favorite NFL player

Since the Cavaliers are in town to play the Sixers tonight, the local media had its opportunity to ask LeBron questions. He was asked about the NFL and he said there are a couple of players he enjoys watching, one being his favorite player, Eagles quarterback and MVP candidate Carson Wentz.

Disagree?

Some people do not want LeBron James to join the Sixers because they believe it would ruin the team’s chemistry, stray away from the ‘organic’ build and prevent Ben from growing as a player.  My argument to those naysayers is that LeBron will help Ben grow as he can serve as a mentor for him on and off the court. The Process is not organic to begin with.  Think about it, the Sixers purposely tanked for 5 years in order to draft generational talents.  What is organic about that?  I think the culmination of The Process is adding other generational talents in free agency by making Philadelphia an attractive major basketball market again.  Finally, who are the Sixers to deny LeBron James, the league’s best player for the past 12 years? I think we need to swallow our pride and welcome him with open arms if he chooses to take his talents to Philly.

Just to add to my points, here is a lineup that the Sixers could put out each night:

  1. G: Ben Simmons
  2. G: JJ Redick
  3. F: Robert Covington
  4. F: LeBron James
  5. C: Joel Embiid

Leave a comment to let me know your thoughts on adding LeBron to the Sixers roster.
